How it works

Hello Retail offers various kinds of intelligent services to increase the activity of your visitors on your webshop via our recommendation and search products and to get them back via email retention. But how does it work ?

A close collaboration

Bringing intelligence to live like the products we offer, it requires a close collaboration between the webshop and the Hello Retail engine, meaning that before our solution can say anything intelligent about the products in your inventory, we must first know about what you sell –  and the more you can tell us about your products the more intelligent our engine becomes. It’s kinda like cooking a good dinner. The more ingredients you can add to the soup the more tasteful it becomes.

A visual and a configuration part

For instance, if a product recommendation shown on the webshop needs to show the product image (which they would most likely always need), we will need that image from the shop added to the Hello Retail system, before we can show it in the visual recommendation.

Configuration
As for the configuration part, there is also the need for some datapoints to make it function best way possible. For instance all of our products makes use of knowing if they deliver the needed functionality by monitoring if a given customer is converting, for instance buying the product they searched for – so we need the webshop to have that conversion tracking on the “thank you page”.

Personalize the newsletter

Another example might be that you want to personalize the newsletters that you send out, and want to have a specific campaign, showing only products from a certain category. Therefore we need the product category information in the Hello Retail system to insure the right setup.

The data onboarding phase

All of this information is something that we usually make sure is settled right at the beginning of our cooperation, we call it the data onboarding phase.

In the data onboarding phase we will require some data points from you, and that the data supplied is in one of the formats that we support. The majority of webshops will be able to simply select the plugin or extension of their platform, or follow a well described guide as how to get the integration running, whilst others might need to follow the manual install process. Good news is that the installation and integration is very lightweight and almost every webshop has the opportunity to to deliver the needed data in a breeze.

For many platforms (see support.helloretail.com), we have plugins that take away most of the work, but you will still be required in some cases to provide additional information to us so we can create the optimal solution for you.

The additional information

The additional information could be extra labels on product recommendations, stars/ratings, stock status text, etc. In those cases, it is just a matter of adding data to your product feed.

The most important part is that for every product represented in your product feed, there is a URL to that product as well.

If you already have another product feed in your system that contains the needed information, then let us know. With Hello Retail, you have the option to combine multiple product feeds – as long as the other feeds also contains the URL of the product.

The better data quality we can get from the product feeds, the better the solution we can build for you. So all data needed in the visual part of the product and all data needed in the configuration part of the product, needs to come from the product feed.

Behavioral data

The behavioral data picked up by the JavaScript snippet is used to personalized experience throughout all our products. The setup is done by adding our JavaScript snippet to the website.

How do Recommendations, Search & Email Personalization work?

When users visit your webshop, we begin to build a model about the individual user and predict what type of products they are most interested in. This model ensures that when a female shopper visits your webshop, she will see female shoes before male shoes. All it takes is that you tell us, via your product feeds, if the product is in fact a male shoe or a female shoe. Determining the right product to show, is then all up to the Hello Retail engine.

When users interact with the webshop, we use this as a feedback loop to continuously optimize what would be the best to provide for the individual user. The more traffic and data points, the better your solution will become. All it takes is structured data delivered from your webshop to the Hello Retail engine. We need it in a structured way through the feed, and in an ordered fashion to make the best use of the data. That’s also why you might experience, if you want to provide us with extra data for us to build an even more awesome solution, that we would need the data in the product feed, and in a very structured way.

When all that is done,  It means that as your webshop continues to grow, product data and behavioural data will be shared between your shop and us, and Hello Retail automatically & continuously improves your solution – even when you sleep.
