Decoprof is a Dutch online retailer specializing in paint, decorating supplies, and color mixing. Alongside a broad product catalog, Decoprof.nl offers tools like a buying guide and custom color mixing - services that set them apart but also make their webshop more complex to navigate than a typical online store.

The challenge

Decoprof’s webshop runs on Lightspeed, and while the platform handled the basics, its built-in search function wasn’t keeping up. Customers struggled to find products. The search was limited - it returned product listings, but couldn’t surface brand pages, blog content, or the mixable colors that are central to Decoprof’s offering.

The solution

Decoprof implemented three Hello Retail products: Search, Recommendations, and Retail Media. Each one addressed a different piece of the puzzle.

Search that finally covers the full catalog

Search was the most urgent fix. With Hello Retail’s search in place, customers could suddenly find not just products, but also brand pages, blog posts, and mixable colors. The search went from a basic product lookup to something that reflected the full depth of Decoprof’s catalog. And critically, Decoprof could now control what appeared at the top of search results - boosting the right products to increase both relevance and revenue.

Recommendations from homepage to checkout

Recommendations gave Decoprof the ability to guide customers throughout their journey. They rolled it out broadly: personalized product blocks on the homepage and category pages, similar product suggestions on product detail pages, and upsell opportunities in the cart and at checkout. Even the 404 error page - usually a dead end - now shows relevant product recommendations.

Retail Media that puts campaigns in the right moment

Retail Media rounded out the strategy by connecting campaigns and content to the search experience. Decoprof uses banners in two ways: first, to surface their buying guide directly within search results, so customers who aren’t sure what they need can get help right where they’re looking. Second, to promote active campaigns running on the webshop - making sure promotions are visible at the moment customers are most engaged.
